New uniform for JHS Students not a bad idea – GES

Despite the many public outrage on the introduction of new school uniform for Junior High School (JHS) students, the Ghana Education Service says, it is not a bad idea.

According to the Director General of GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, the new introduction is aimed at creating a vital force and also prepare the general student body of what is ahead of them.

“In our schools, the first years and second years are mostly seen in shorts. The third or final year students are mostly seen in trousers. Have we ever bothered to find out why it is so?

“We want to start psyching the students for what is ahead. The curriculum is about changing and it is important the students know and start seeing themselves as seniors hence the change of uniform,” he said in an interview on Morning Starr with Francis Abban

The Ghana Education Service (GES) announced the introduction of a new school uniform for Junior High School (JHS) students on Thursday.

The announcement was made by the Director-General of the GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa at a press conference.

Students are expected to start wearing the new school uniform from next academic year, 2019 – 2020.

Other reforms have seen the GES revise curriculum for primary and pre-schools in the country.

The new curriculum will be from kindergarten to primary six.

One teacher from each of the country’s districts is also expected to undergo training on the new curricula which come into force from September 2019.
