1 dead, 37 persons injuried in Suhum highway accident

A total of 37 people were seriously injured in an accident at Suhum Mankrong on the Accra–Kumasi Highway on Sunday, January 11, 2026, including 21 males and 17 females, while one person lost their life.

The accident involved a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus (AS 7022-21) and a Man Diesel truck (GW 3969-U), both moving when the collision occurred.

The bus suffered extensive front-end damage, whereas the truck’s rear had only minor damage. Witnesses reported that the bus appeared to be traveling at high speed before hitting the truck.

According to the Suhum Municipal Fire Station, the GNFS rescue team, led by ADO II Bernard Boamah, was dispatched at 6:59 am and reached the scene by 7:07 am.

The team extricated the deceased, attended to the injured, and transported some victims to Suhum Government Hospital for medical care.

The GNFS crew also cleared the wreckage, restored traffic, and ensured the safety of other road users before leaving the scene at 8:57 am and returning to base at 9:52 am. The service emphasized its commitment to rapid and professional emergency response.
