10 More Persons With COVID-19 Die In Ghana

Ghana has recorded ten new COVID-19 deaths. This has pushed the country’s death toll to 95.

This was announced by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye.

He made the announcement on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at a press briefing organised by the Ministry of Information.

The number of confirmed cases in the country has also risen to 14,568.

434 persons who tested positive for the virus have been discharged per new discharge protocols adopted by the Ghana Health Service pushing the number or recoveries to 10,907.

“We have so far following the review recorded 95 deaths. Currently, we have 24 severe cases across the country and six cases are critical and five persons are currently on ventilators. We have a total of 414 new cases reported from 25 districts across the country and three regions. Which is that about 13 regions did not record any new case yesterday,” he said.

Ghana’s case count

The total number of persons who have recovered/discharged has also increased to 10,907.

This implies that 434 persons who tested positive for the virus have been discharged per new discharge protocols adopted by the Ghana Health Service.

Greater Accra, Ashanti Get Additional ICU Treatment Center

Additional Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities and a treatment center have been earmarked for the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions to enhance the management of confirmed Covid-19 cases.

The move was informed by the growing number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the two regions.

“The great majority of cases are in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, I have approved further investment in the following areas, additional ICU bed facilities in Greater Accra Region a new treatment center for Ashanti Region, ” said President Akufo-Addo in his Covid-19 address last  Sunday.

He also announced that additional laboratories will be set up to strengthen clinical care to allow for real time results of Covid-19 tests.

He said investment will also be made for more medicines, consumables and equipment as well as formal engagements for a pool of specialist health professionals to complement the respective resident multi-disciplinary health teams at various treatment centres.
