13th African Games: Ghana Finishes 6th With 68 Medals

The 13th African Games concluded on March 23, 2024, with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo leading a significant government delegation at the closing ceremony held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Athletes and officials from various participating nations paraded into the stadium adorned in vibrant attire, greeted by enthusiastic cheers from the packed audience.

While many athletes aimed for medal victories, only a select few excelled in the competitive spirit.

The final medal tally serves as a clear indicator of each team’s overall success in the games.

Despite Ghana’s remarkable performance on Golden Friday, clinching 11 gold medals, the host nation fell short of breaking into the top five medal-winning countries. Egypt secured the top position with 191 medals, followed by Nigeria (121), South Africa (106), Algeria (114), and Tunisia (88). Ghana settled in sixth place with 68 medals.

Morocco, Ethiopia, Mauritius, and Kenya rounded out the top ten, each with varying medal counts.

Nations such as Chad, Djibouti, Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho, and Rwanda, each with a solitary medal, found themselves ranked at the bottom of the table, occupying the 41st position.
