The headmistress of Aggrey Memorial A.M.E Zion Senior High School, Dorothy Adentwi-Hayford, has denied claims that six of her students assaulted a final-year student of Adisadel College after a sports festival in Cape Coast.
The Ghana Police Service had stated on February 24, 2026, that the incident happened after the last day of an inter-colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium. Police said the Aggrey students allegedly attacked Rexford Owusu-Ansah, stealing his iPhone 17 Pro Max, GH¢1,400 in cash, and his shoes.
But Mrs. Adentwi-Hayford told the Ghana News Agency that the school’s checks showed no complaint was lodged by the Adisadel student at the Kotokuraba Police Station. She added that none of the six named students had been arrested and no student had been formally accused of assault.
She emphasised the school’s dedication to discipline and ethical conduct and said Aggrey Memorial SHS would fully cooperate with authorities to uncover the truth. She called the allegations “unfounded” and warned that they had unfairly harmed the school’s reputation.
Mr. Francis Boakye, Global Vice President of the Aggrey Memorial Old Students’ Association (AMOSA), supported the headmistress’s position during a press briefing on March 3. He urged the police to review their statement and provide clarification to ensure fairness and justice.
“AMOSA remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting the welfare of students and supporting a fair and evidence-based resolution of the matter,” he said.
Mr. Boakye also called on the school to provide the police with any information about assault reports involving Aggrey students to help resolve the matter fully.
