18 Months Old Baby Killed By Fire

Last Friday night, an 18 month old baby was burnt to her death with her body charred into ashes and beyond recognition after fire swept through a residential facility at Danoso near Ejisu in the Ashanti region.

The inferno also caused the death of another 4 year old child who was described as a sister of the dead baby.

The heartbreaking incident happened on Friday around 7pm after a fire swept through the home of the two children house Donaso.

The seven bedroom house was completely gutted by the fire, which swept through the house very fast due to the dry weather.

Eye witnesses named the deceased persons as Sharifatu Razak, 18 months and Zidan Razak, fours years old.

The two siblings were locked up in a room, when the fire started, and they could not escape or be rescued on time.

Eye witnesses said efforts were made to rescue the two young girls but the intensity of the fire was too much.

The parents of the trapped sisters and other inhabitants had to endure the agony of watching the girls burnt alive.

Fire fighters rushed to Donaso, which is close to Ejisu, to quench the blaze, but the sisters were dead already.

Sources said residents of the area are traumatised over the heartbreaking manner at which the girls lost their lives.

Fire outbreaks seem to be in the rise in recent times.

Within a spate of weeks, there have been reported cases of fire outbreaks in two Senior High Schools, one in the Ashanti Region and one in the Greater Accra Region and The New Publisher is of the strong view it is a wakeup call that ought not to be ignored.

While dust is yet to settle on disturbing reports that on two separate occasions within two weeks, fire has destroyed a boys dormitory at Accra Academy, a Senior High School based in Accra and that some 700 students are left stranded, salt was added to injury with news again were round that a boys dormitory at the Oppong Memorial Senior High School (SHS) at Kokofu in the Ashanti Region, has also been gutted by fire, displacing about 300 students.

In both cases all belongings of the students in the dormitories were burnt beyond redemption and the dormitories buildings were also completely destroyed.

In our usual ‘fire-brigade’ style, the Ghana Fire Service has been directed to investigate the cause of the fires.
