2-Year-Old Girl & Brother Burn To Death In Accra

A fire outbreak at a residence near Susanna Lodge in Cantonments, a plush area in Accra where the rich live and beautiful persons play, has claimed a two-year-old girl and her elder brother, who died while receiving treatment at the Bank Hospital.

The fire broke out on Sunday, September 20, 2026, leaving the family of six devastated after the two children lost their lives.

The family, made up of the father, mother and their four children, were in the building when the fire started.

The two-year-old girl, who was unable to escape, was found dead at the scene by firefighters.

Her elder brother was among those injured and was rushed to the Bank Hospital for treatment. However, he died on Monday morning while receiving medical care.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the boy’s death and said the remaining members of the family were still receiving treatment at the facility.

Assistant Divisional Officer at the GNFS Headquarters, Isaac Kojo Opoku, confirmed the death of the second child and expressed the service’s condolences to the bereaved family.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations ongoing to establish what started the blaze.

The remains of the two-year-old victim have been handed over to the Cantonments Police for the necessary procedures.

The GNFS said further updates would be communicated as more information becomes available.
