2019 SHS Placement The Best Ever – NAPO

The Minister for Education, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, has described the 2019 Senior High School (SHS) placement as the best ever since the inception of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) in Ghana.

According to the Minister, despite the challenges and confusion that have marred the 2019 placement, their records with regards to the number of graduates placed so far are satisfactory.

Dr Opoku-Prempeh revealed this when speaking at a press conference on Thursday to address challenges and issues surrounding the CSSPS.

“This year is the best since we started in 2005 and the records are there to show. As we speak this morning, we have over 91 per cent of pupils being placed, so we have a good system so the noise doesn’t reflect what is there.

“The total vacancy declared by the heads of Ghana’s 721 Senior High Schools is 520,298 and the released results of pupils from WAEC is 512,083, so if all pupils passed, then all could go to school without a problem.”

To Dr Opoku-Prempeh, a total of 38,352 pupils have been disqualified from placement for failing in either English or Mathematics. Hence, the total qualified pupils to be placed in the various SHSs came down to a total of 473,728.
