5-Year-Old Boy, 11 Others Killed In Road Accident

A Five-year-old boy is among 12 people who lost their lives in a road accident at Konongo on the Kumasi-Accra highway on the night of Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Three vehicles which include a DAF cargo truck from Kumasi to Accra loaded with tomatoes, a commercial bus carrying passengers from Accra to Kumasi, and an empty fuel tanker were involved in the crash.

The crash reportedly occurred when the driver of the DAF cargo truck attempted to overtake another vehicle but lost control of the steering wheel and collided head-on with an oncoming commercial bus travelling from the Accra area.

Minutes after the truck and the bus collided, the driver of the empty fuel tanker rammed his vehicle into the two already-accidented cars, sparking fears among people at the scene.

Eyewitnesses said they saw dead and mangled bodies scattered right in the middle of the road, adding that about 13 people luckily escaped with bodily injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to them, the three accident vehicles completely blocked the Konongo section of the Kumasi-Accra highway, and it took the intervention of the police, who towed the vehicles away, before traffic could flow.

Meanwhile, the 13 people who survived the accident have been admitted to the Steward Hospital in Yawkwai, where they are said to be responding to treatment.

The lifeless bodies of the 12 souls who perished during the accident have also been deposited at the morgue for preservation and identification by their relatives.
