6 Cop ‘Killers’ Freed! – Key Suspect In The Cooler

State prosecutors say they are no longer interested in prosecuting the six persons accused of assisting one Eric Kojo Duah to murder two policemen in Budumburam in the Central Region last month.

According to the prosecution led by ASP Sylvester Asare recent developments about the murder case has compelled the state to drop the charges against the six suspects.

They are: Isaac Amissah, Ibrahim Zakaria, Isaac Mensa, Oblitey Commey, Victor Yire and Fatawu Ahmed.

The Kaneshie District Court freed them after State Prosecutors dropped the charges against them and substituted the charge sheet with a fresh one leaving the one described as the key suspect- Eric Duah as the lone suspect in the case.

The six were arrested after they allegedly shot and killed the officers – Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal and Sergeant Michael Dzamesi – when they accosted them for refusing to heed to a signal to stop.

The new charge sheet as filed in court slaps Eric and others identified as Theophilus, Mike Anim and Kay ( who state Prosecutors say are at large) with murder and conspiracy to commit crime namely murder of the two policemen.

Prosecutors said these were the co-occupants in the vehicle that the key suspect used to commit the crime before it was abandoned.

The deceased policemen were personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) detachment at Kasoa, and their deaths sparked public outrage.

The two officers were on task force duties on the Kasoa-Winneba highway on the day of the incident fateful day.

The suspect, who were using an unregistered Toyota Camry vehicle and said to be driving recklessly, shot the unarmed policemen when they were chased and stopped.

Hearing continues on October 9.
