7 Buses Burnt Into Ashes …Owners Cry Like Babies

Seven brand new luxury buses that were sent to Suame Magazine for some minor and insignificant mechanical works by their owners have been completely burnt into ashes beyond redemption.

This follows a major fire outbreak that swept through the popular car mechanic base in Kumasi, on Saturday evening, which destroyed other valuable items.

In all, reports indicated that 17 vehicles, including the seven big buses, urban mini buses and some salon cars that were at the place for repairs were gutted.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, who led a team to inspect the place on Monday, could not believe the extent of damage caused by the fire.

Accompanying the Regional Minister were the NADMO National Boss, Nana Agyeman Prempeh and Albert Kan Dapaah, the Minister for National Security, amongst others.

Confusion Over Fire

Meanwhile, the mechanics were sharply divided over what might have started the inferno, which also consumed car spares parts and a number of shops at the place.

Some of the mechanics alleged that someone among them left a cigarette butt on the ground, and due to the dryness of the weather, it sparked the fire and burnt the cars.

Other mechanics were also of the view that power fluctuations, which had been common in the community in recent times, might have caused the huge fire.

Investigations

Simon Osei-Mensah said it was too early for anybody to jump into conclusions, pointing out that the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were investigating the case.

According to him, anybody that has vital information about how the fire started, should relay the information to the GNFS so that they would do proper investigations.

NADMO Support

Nana Agyeman Prempeh, the NADMO Boss, said definitely the government would support the affected people after proper assessment had been done by his outfit.

Kan Dapaah, on his part, urged the affected people, to remain calm and strong in thse trying and difficult moments, assuring them of government’s support.
