Adwoa Tee Apologises for “I Love Dating Scammers’ Comment

Ghanaian influencer and entrepreneur Adjoa Tee has apologised for her controversial comments about dating fraudsters, saying she was misunderstood and never meant to glorify scamming.

Appearing on the red carpet at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) in a stunning green gown that turned heads, Adjoa Tee addressed the backlash from an appearance on an episode of the Rants, Bants and Confessions podcast that sparked outrage across social media.

Ghanaians, I want to use this opportunity to apologise. I did say that, but with the criticism and backlash, please, I am sorry,” she said in an emotional statement.

Her remarks stemmed from a May 7 episode of the Rants, Bants and Confessions podcast, where she boldly claimed she preferred dating scammers over men with regular office jobs. According to her, men in 9-to-5 roles are often too tired to show affection.

“Before I started this influencing thing, I was doing 9-to-5, working at GSE. Men in those jobs are always tired, leaving the office late, and when they get home, they’re too exhausted to give me attention,” she said on the show.

Tee explained that scammers have more free time to offer attention and conversation.

“I wouldn’t mind dating a scammer—because he’s always home,” she added, stating that she values emotional presence more than a job title.

Her comments caused widespread backlash, with many Ghanaians accusing her of endorsing illegal activity. Even her co-hosts, Efia Odo and Cookie, expressed concern about the ethics and emotional risks of dating scammers.

“I’ve dated a drug dealer for fun before, but it’s too risky now,” Efia confessed

Still, Adjoa Tee defended her stance at the time, saying, “If you’re looking for the money, take the risk, since I’m not the one scamming I am ok.” She also claimed scammers are more generous than professionals.

“I’ve dated a lawyer before, and he was stingy.”

But under the spotlight of the TGMAs, Adjoa Tee walked back her remarks.

“I was just trying to say that I do not mind dating someone like that. But I realised that it did not sit well with many people, and I am truly sorry. Just know that from my heart, I am sorry. I am still the same girl you all love,” she said

She also cleared the air on her ex-boyfriend Big Paradise, denying he was a scammer: “He’s a promoter and hype man.”
