AFCON 2019: Black Stars Can Win – Ayew

Deputy Black Stars Captain, Andre Ayew, has said Ghana must clinch a fifth Afcon trophy this year after coming close to achieving that feat in the 2010 and 2015 continental tournament.

The son of Ghanaian legend Abedi  Ayew Pele is hopeful that the fortunes of the team will change as they prepare for the upcoming tournament.

“There were times we deserved to win the trophy. If we won it in 2010 and 2015, we wouldn’t have stolen it. But its football and we can’t say what will happen. What we can say is we have the squad. We have the players and staff to go to the end of the tournament,” the Fenerbahce star remarked.

Nana Addo Tasks Black Stars

President Nana Akufo-Addo last Saturday in his congratulatory message to the Senior National Team urged the team to win 2019 AFCON.

According to him, the Black Stars should strive harder to bring this year’s AFCON trophy to Ghana to end the three-decade drought.

“Warm congratulations to the players, coach Kwasi Appiah and his technical team, and the management team of the senior national football team, the Black Stars, on Saturday’s victory over Kenya. Phase 1 of the project, i.e. topping their AFCON qualifying group, has been realised. Now on to phase 2, that is winning the next AFCON tournament in Egypt. I am confident we can make it, if we work at it. God bless the Black Stars”, Nana Akufo-Addo posted on Facebook.

Meanwhile draw for the AFCON 2019 will be held on April 12 in Cairo.
