Afenyo-Markin will remain Minority Leader – Razak Opoku slams critics

Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, Founding President of the U.P Tradition Institute, has affirmed that Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin will continue to lead the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) caucus in Parliament, receiving the same level of support that was previously extended to former Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Speaking on the Party’s strategic direction, Dr. Opoku stressed that unity and strong leadership are essential for the NPP as it positions itself for the 2028 general elections. He emphasized the need for competent and strategic executives at all levels to reinforce the party’s grassroots structures and improve electoral performance.

He highlighted that key national officers— including the National Chairman, First National Vice Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Women Organiser, and National Nasara Organiser-alongside regional, constituency, electoral area, and polling station executives, must possess strong mobilisation skills and the ability to effectively resource party activities.

Dr. Opoku also underlined the importance of effective communication. He stated that the National Director of Communication should be media-savvy, intellectually sharp, and capable of shaping and countering political narratives. He added that party representatives on radio and television must be well-informed, relying on facts and data rather than rhetoric.

Referencing the NPP’s amended constitution, Dr. Opoku clarified that the National Chairman remains the party’s leader at all times, distinct from the flagbearer. He urged delegates to exercise caution when selecting the next Chairman, describing the position as vital for the Party’s cohesion and long-term success.
