Afful-Broni Sponsoring Candidate Against NPP …Chief Blows Alarm

Reverend Father Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, the embattled Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba (UEW), is sponsoring an independent parliamentary candidate to challenge the incumbent MP for Effutu, Alex Afenyo-Markin, Chief of Effutu Zongo, Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV, has stated.

The Effutu Zongo Chief is among a tall list of community and opinion leaders who have publicly called on Prof. Afful-Broni to desist from tarnishing the reputation of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led government and Afenyo-Markin in the constituency.

“If you have gotten your independent candidate you are sponsoring to contest the 2020 elections, go ahead and do so with your ill-gotten wealth but not at the expense and reputation of our dear MP”, Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV noted in a letter he addressed to Prof. Afful-Broni.

Several NPP stakeholders within the Effutu Constituency have expressed similar concerns and explained that though they are not scared of a supposed independent candidate, their worry is how the reputation of the party and the incumbent MP is being tarnished on purpose.

The letter from the Effutu Zongo Chief read: “I write to bring to your attention the conduct of Alhassan Salifu Bawa in writing articles against our respected Member of Parliament, Hon. Afenyo-Markin. It appears you have endorsed Bawa’s behaviour to continuously disrespect our MP. Ever since you succeeded in maligning Prof. Mawutor Avoke and thereby taking his position, UEW has not known peace.”

It also stated: “I wonder why you shamelessly indulge in such conduct when not too long ago, you and Bawa came to my Palace pleading with me to talk to government officials to withdraw auditors from the Auditor General’s Department. If you are that clean and haven’t misappropriated state funds, why were you afraid of audit? I recall your apprehension that should the audit continue, there will be a ‘big shame’ on your image.”

National Security Worried

A letter written by the Minister of National Security Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah cautioning Prof. Afful Broni and Alhassan Salifu Bawah, a Lecturer at the same University to desist from tarnishing the image of the Akufo Addo led government has been described as “useless” by the very person the letter was meant to have cautioned.

“Neither the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) nor useless letters and memos from the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, can stop me!”, was one of the several strong worded statements, Alhasan Bawa wrote in a reply to the latter from the National Security Minister.

Mr. Bawah’s reply to the National Security Minister was done through one of his several damning articles published on modernghana.com, a private owned news website.

The contents are rather defamatory and THE NEW PUBLISHER therefore considers it unethical to reproduce it in full.

EOCO Says Afful-Broni Is Guilty

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has indicted Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in a report that has not been acted upon by the school’s Governing Council, else he would not have been at post.

EOCO’s final report on procurement infractions at the UEW concluded that Prof. Afful-Broni in his capacity as Chairman of the Transport Committee of the University is guilty of breaching the transport policy.

The report said on March 21, 2017, “The Head of Transport of UEW, Alvin Kwesi Andoh notified Management of the University through the Registrar that, section (8) of the (SIC transport) policy has not been complied with. He therefore submitted proposals on the insurance policy. This proposal was not acted upon by the Members of the Transport Committee Chaired by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Rev. (Prof.) Afful-Broni.

“Therefore, there was a breach of the transport policy of the University. Per the Transport Policy, members of the Transport Management Committee are to be held responsible  as stated in Section 2 sub section a and b of the Transport Policy.”

Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, has been accused by several groups and persons of masterminding the unrest and season-of-confusion that has disrupted the peace of the University.

Afful-Broni has however consistently denied all the allegations.
