Akandoh Orders Board Members To Stay Out of Facility Management

Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has stressed that the day-to-day administration of health institutions is the responsibility of management, not boards or board members.

The Minister said understanding the respective responsibilities of Boards and Chief Executive Officers is essential to ensuring effective governance and preventing interference in the day-to-day administration of institutions.

“The day-to-day running of the institution is not the responsibility of the Board or Board members,” the Minister stated during the second day of the Ministry of Health’s High-Level Mid-Year Review Retreat in Ho, where participants are being taken through training on corporate governance and the role of Boards.

According to him, good governance is critical in ensuring that the country’s resources are effectively used to improve the well-being of the people.

He used the opportunity to emphasise his commitment to ensuring that the health agencies have Legislative Instruments (LIs) to promote good governance and effective management of their institutions.

He also urged health institutions to exercise greater prudence in the use of public resources, particularly expenditure on seminars, training and travel, stressing the need for decisions to reflect the country’s resource constraints.

Akandoh said the training would help participants better understand governance principles, avoid institutional infractions and make decisions that promote accountability and effective management.

He encouraged all participants to actively engage in the session and gain a clear understanding of their respective roles and responsibilities.
