Alhaji Sinare Urges Protection of Whistleblowers

A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), H.E Alhaji Said Sinare, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure protection for embattled former lawmaker for Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, against what he describes as political retribution from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Sinare’s appeal follows recent revelations by Adwoa Safo, a former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, about internal party pressures and alleged underhand dealings within the ruling NPP.

Her disclosures have reportedly unsettled key figures within the party, fuelling speculations of an orchestrated campaign to silence or punish her.

Speaking to journalists, Sinare emphasized the need to safeguard individuals who expose internal wrongdoing, arguing that whistle-blowers like Adwoa Safo play a crucial role in strengthening democratic accountability.

“We cannot sit back and watch as the reckless NPP victimizes one of its own simply for telling the truth. If Adwoa Safo is being persecuted for exposing their internal rot, then it is a clear sign of the vindictive nature of the former government of Nana Addo Danqua Akuffo Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. I urge former President Mahama and all well-meaning Ghanaians to stand with her,” he stated.

Adwoa Safo, who has had a tumultuous relationship with the NPP leadership in recent years, recently revealed details of alleged coercion and mistreatment by top government officials, further deepening tensions within the party.

Her claims have sparked debate over the extent of internal strife in the NPP before the 2024 general elections.

Sinare further cautioned that targeting individuals for speaking out sets a dangerous precedent for Ghana’s democracy.

Assuring Ghanaians of making sure the government of President John Dramani Mahama protect the whistle-blowers in the NPP, he urged the civil society groups to condemn any acts of political intimidation against Adwoa Safo and others facing similar threats.
