Ameri Deal: One Can’t Blame Akufo-Addo Over Misled – McDan CEO

The Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, Dr Daniel McKorley has backed claims that President Akufo-Addo was misled into granting executive approval to the controversial novation and amendment AMERI agreement.

The novation and amendment agreement, seeking to buy out the $510million deal Ameri Energy has with the government and be handed over to a third party Mytilineos for 15 years received approval from President Akufo-Addo by way of an Executive Order on July 31 after parliament refused to ratify it.

According to him, he believes President  Akufo-Addo stated that the backlash the presidency suffered when it emerged President Akufo-Addo was misled into giving the executive approval prepositions the deal was unnecessary.

“He is the president. If you are a Chief Executive you would understand what it takes to make that pronouncement. A lot of people might wrong him but with me looking at my position, I believe in my lieutenants. So if my lieutenant comes to me and said I went through it [and] this is what it is, I believe you,” Dr McKorley told Starr Chat host Bola Ray.

Asked so if he believed the President did nothing wrong in the controversies surrounding the suspended agreement, he replied, “The President did the right thing.”

Former Minister of Energy Mr Boagye Agyarko earlier in reports in the media landscape stated readiness for the NPP government to renew the contract back to operation. Aftermath of that,created a lot of criticism from all around expecially from side of the minority.

He has since been relief OFF his position from the Energy Ministry in conclusion that, he misled the President into giving acceptance of the deal.

Reacting to claims made against him time back of a backlash that hinted his credit facility, Dr McKorley noted that he had nothing to do with how the loan facility was approved.

“A small fly like me, how can I influence the Bank’s decision. Check the law. We play politics with businessmen in this country which is not fair,” he stated.

He, however, observed that he wasn’t bothered with the negativity that characterized the loan saying “the higher and bigger you go expect some of these turbulence. We are living in Ghana and since we are in Ghana expect some of these things.”
