An Open Letter To John Dumelo

Dear John Dumelo,

Let me begin by congratulating you for winning the NDC parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso West Wuogon (AWW) constituency to become the party’s Parliamentary Candidate in the constituency for election 2020.

I also wish to welcome you to the enterprise of partisan politics, your newly found love. I only do hope that you haven’t totally abandoned the Creative Art industry and that, you would use your new ‘office’ to champion the interest and welfare of your former colleagues, actors and actresses in particular.

As a brother and friend, kindly indulge me to share with you this piece of advice; a brotherly and friendly advice it is. This move is borne out of my innocuous and genuine wish for you to succeed in the enterprise of politics, an enterprise I can confidently describe as my comfort zone.

I am doing this, mindful of the fact that you are a novice in competitive politics, particularly in the politics of Ayawaso West Wuogon. If you take this advice seriously, I bet you, you would have no qualms with the good people of Ayawaso West Wuogon.

I am sure you know that the AWW constituency is by far, the most elitist constituency in the country hosting the nation’s premier university along with some other reputable institutions of higher learning and elite communities.

What it means is that the electorates in this constituency are not only enlightened but also discerning and very intelligent. You just cannot play a smart one on them. So, I advise you to commit yourself to a campaign that is devoid of vulgarity, raunchiness, mudslinging, personal vendetta, name-calling and the likes.

I know it is almost impossible for the NDC to run a campaign that is devoid of these things which have regrettably become embedded in their DNA, but I plead with you, my brother, to be an exception. It is not for nothing that the NDC is unable to win this parliamentary seat.

You should also know that the constituents of Ayawaso West Wuogon do not have short memories, and therefore, have not forgotten the issue with you and Government’s Toyota Landcruiser V8. This gives you some buttered image in the eyes of the people, and so, you need to do much more to redeem your credibility in the constituency.

The least you can do, therefore, is to come out of the NDC’s comfort zone and commit to a clean and decent campaign; to an issue-based campaign, and ultimately to a development and progressive campaign if you want to make a headway.

Whilst at it, you should not overstretch yourself hoping to snatch the seat from the NPP, because that would be tantamount to wishful thinking. Your best is to reduce the margin of the NDC’s inevitable humiliating defeat.

The discerning electorates of Ayawaso West Wuogon duly appreciate the good works of their Member of Parliament, Hon. Seyram Alhassan, (who would once again be the NPP’s PC in the constituency) and the competent government of H.E. President Akufo-Addo in bringing development to the area, and would, on any day, reward the party with a resounding electoral victory. To them, the NDC alternative remains not only scary but also frightening.

Once again congratulations my brother and welcome to the field of reality where everybody gets to know their smoothness level.

Assalamu alaik

Your friend and brother,

Iddi Muhayu-Deen
