Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital M.D. Relieved of His Duties

The persistent and continual heel-digging of health professionals at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital for the removal of their medical director has finally yielded some results.

Temporarily relieving him of his duties, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has asked the embattled Medical Director, Dr Eugene Dodoye to take up a course in interpersonal skills.

According to the MoH, the training which would last some five months would help him improve his relationship and interactions with the staff at the hospital upon his return.

This decision was taken after Dr Dodoye met with the MoH, last Friday in an emergency meeting that determined his sour fate.

The nurses and physician assistants at the hospital last week, withdrew their services with a strong demand that the MD be removed from the hospital and given the requisite training on management and effective leadership as suggested by the Fact-Finding Committee appointed by the ministry to investigate the longstanding feud.

The workers had also accused Dr Dordoye of subjecting them to physical, emotional and mental torture.

Meanwhile, a caretaker has been asked to take the reins and saddle the hospital back to peace and quiet.

Sacked?

Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Mr Robert Cudjoe has revealed that the return of Dr Dodoye to the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital is not certain.

Speaking to Citi News on Friday, Mr Cudjoe said “it’s possible but the chances of that are very small.”

As they wait the resumption of a new director, health workers at the hospital have asked to return to their post.
