Anthony Dzamefe: The 50 cedis breakthrough business mogul

The founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Caveman Watches and Time Piece GH, Mr. Anthony Dzamefe has revealed and detailed the breakthrough he had which has made his business a popular name making all the good strides in Ghana as well as across the globe.

In an exclusive interview with The New Publisher, Mr. Dzamefe said the business has been of ups and downs but perseverance has been his trademark, seeing to the current success and gains.

Despite the obvious hurdles ahead and the expected truncation of monthly income inflow, Anthony Mensah Dzamefe revealed he took the bold decision to quit his 9 to 5 job.

While he resigned his job with a plan, things didn’t unfold as he had expected. The young man was compelled to hustle in the business of selling second hand clothes.

However, fate had something installed for him which began unfolding quickly. And a decision to buy a watch, which he purchased at GHc 50 was the spark that brought his destiny into alignment.

Anthony’s 4-year-old business first began after he bought the watch and posted it on his WhatsApp status. The adorable piece attracted the interest of a contact, who called to inquire and asked to buy.

Adding a profit margin, he sold the piece and went back to buy more and resell. And from one to two, he sold hundred more of timepieces and birthed his company, TimePiece GH.

“I have said in many interviews that before I started thrifting and reselling watches, I was not an enthusiast. It happened one day that I went out shopping for a wristwatch and was shocked at how expensive they were. Essentially, I felt that 150 cedis for a watch was too expensive. Since I needed a watch, I continued shopping elsewhere and found one at a better price of 50 cedis. It wasn’t until I posted a picture of the wristwatch on my display profile on whatsapp when someone asked if I was selling it which I sold it subsequently.  I made high profit and saw an opportunity to buy 2 more and sell it.”

He added, “This went on for a while and inspired me to build a business around selling watches. It occurred to me that I could take control over most of the value chain, like repairing watches, selling straps and other accessories. Therefore, I studied how to work leather and repair watches in Kantamanto. This knowledge earned me the expert badge in watchmaking.”

Journey

Born in Ho, an Alumni of Saint Paul SHS – where he studied Biological Science and UPSA where he majored in Business Administration and Management detailed the experience he has had in his entrepreneurial skills since he started.

“After graduating from college, I took a job as a marketer for a hotel where I was directing clients in the airport to the hotels. This job paid me GH500. After experiencing life in the corporate sector for some time, I identified that I needed more freedom to test my creativity and abilities. So I resigned to embark on my entrepreneurial journey where I tried and struggled few ventures before finding my passion for wristwatches.

“I founded TimepieceGh with minimal capital, hawked my way around car parks and offices before and finally made my business nationally popular as the trusted Ghanaian Wristwatch retail and repair company. I felt disappointed by the fact that I was importing and selling all these watch brands and there was no significant watch brand coming from Africa. I decided to manufacture a watch brand that will rub shoulders with the giants in the global watch market. That was the reason behind the invention of Ghana’s fast-rising New York Times endorsed watch brand, CAVEMAN GH.”

Anthony Mensah Dzamefe’s philosophy is “know yourself, embrace who you are and accept the fact that the world owes you nothing. That’s how you can brave the odds and make your dreams come true.”

He was recently named as the overall Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 and the Emerging Brand of the Year by the Young Achievers Summit 2019.
