Media Relations Officer (MRO) at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Paa Kwesi Schandorf has said the sector Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is not overwhelmed by the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
Speaking in an interview with TV3, Saturday, August 23, 2025, he explained that the Minister is well-established to deal with the menace of galamsey.
“The Ministry is not overwhelmed at all. The reason is basically because of the experience and the tenacity of the man at the helm of affairs. It is important to put on record that the sector minister has been in the space for a long time and these are not mere gratitude or empty praises. He’s been around for a long time and he understand the fine nuances and dynamics of public service and politics at large,” he stated.
Mr. Schandorf stressed that while the fight against galamsey is critical issue, there’s a political will and a dedicated team to combat galamsey.
He expressed optimism that with the measures being instituted to deal with the menace, the country will regain its destructed forests and polluted river bodies.
“While the issues may appear huge, there’s that team to deal decisively with illegal mining and more importantly that political will is equally present and abundant and that is why very soon our forest will be turn to their green state and our waters will become blue once again so we are not overwhelmed at all,” he added.
He took the opportunity to respond to allegations of extortion of miners by anti-galamsey taskforces.
“The point about all of these is that, it is NAIMOS that has the mandate to coordinate all of these swoops and so when allegations of this nature are levelled and we check and we examined and we notice and realize that it does not involve NAIMOS, then there is no cause for concern,” he stressed.
He added: “because that is the legitimate outfit that has been mandated to lead the fight and so for the fact that no accusation of such nature has been slapped against NAIMOS, there’s no cause for alarm.” -3news.com
