Ashanti Police Warns False Alarmists

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against the twin habits of raising false alarm to mislead the police and deliberately giving false reports about prime suspects to distract the police.

Speaking on Nhyira FM, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, Ashanti Regional Police PRO, who disclosed that false reports about prime suspects are on the increase in Kumasi, said anyone caught doing that would be made to face the law.

“Of late people have been calling the police on phone to give false reports about suspects that are on police wanted list.

“This bad behaviour is not helping the police, especially, in our resolve to fight crime and apprehend suspects that are on the run”, he said, adding that he was surprised recently about how an inmate of the Nsawam Prison had the guts to call the police on phone to mislead them.

“When the Canadian girls were kidnapped in Kumasi, someone called that he was aware of the whereabouts of the kidnappers and the girls.

“After some calls were made and investigated further, the police detected that the caller was a false alarmist, calling from the Nsawam prison”.

ASP Ahianyo warned those fond of doing that to stop, as the police would deal sternly with any person that would be nabbed for misleading the police.
