Asuogyaman DCE Blows GHC70k for Renovation

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asuogyaman, Samuel Kwame Agyekum has approved the payment of a hefty amount of GH¢72,618.00 to the Asuogyaman district assembly for the renovation of the district coordinating director’s residence.

The DCE who approved the payment in May 2018 is also reported to have spent a whopping amount to renovate his official residence.

The development has sparked anger among supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the area who believe the money spent on the house is outrageous.

The angry residents have petitioned President Akufo-Addo for his removal from office.

A copy of the petition sighted by Starr News read: “Our call is of paramount interest to us due to the fact that since the incumbent DCE assumed office, he has not proactively engaged the many party faithful and concerned youth groups to keep them abreast always in the news for destroying the good name of the Party and the Presidency that afforded him the opportunity to serve through unimaginable inflated contracts, procurement without recourse to due process and resultant derogatory interactions with the District Finance officer who is committed to protecting the public purse as our intelligence indicates”.

The petition further stated: “Conclusively, we strongly believe in decentralized governance and equitable distribution of authority and believe his timely removal from office and investigation for acts of corruption will serve as a unitying effont of your able administration which will enhance your relationship with the constituents and ensure development through reputable, responsible and accountable”.

When Starr News on Tuesday contacted the DCE on the claims, Mr. Kwame Agyekum confirmed the amount was doled out but noted that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is investigating the issue.
