Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, the man who impersonated as a certified medical doctor and tricked women with false promises of love and travel has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.
Fredrick, the man behind the lies, was caught on Thursday, June 6, 2025, at Kasoa Crispo City in the Central Region. He was arrested during an intelligence-led operation by officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID).
According to the police statement on Monday June 9, 2025, Kow-Assifuah pretended to be a medical doctor working at United Brain Hospital in Mallam, Accra. He used this fake identity to lure women online. After building romantic relationships with them, he convinced his victims to pay him money for fake travel opportunities to Europe.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to impersonating a doctor at the United Brain Hospital at Mallam, a suburb of Accra.
He also confessed to using his fake identity to engage women online, initiating intimate relationships with them and convincing them to part with money for fake travel arrangements to Europe,” the police statement read.
At the time of his arrest, Kow-Assifuah was dressed like a real doctor. He wore a white lab coat, had a stethoscope around his neck, and was waiting to meet another woman he had targeted.
When police searched the area, they found several medical tools in his possession. These included two stethoscopes, three IV drips, five syringes, two sample bottles, a roll of plaster, six bottles of vaccines, and a Ghanaian passport. He also had GH¢8,500 in cash.
During police questioning, he admitted everything. His goal, police say, was to collect money from hopeful victims dreaming of going abroad.
The suspect is currently in police custody and helping with investigations. Authorities say he will soon face court.
The Ghana Police have warned the public, especially women, to be careful of people they meet online. They also advised Ghanaians to report anyone who pretends to be a professional without proof.
