Ballon d’Or Nominee Hakimi Denies Rape Accusation

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) footballer Achraf Hakimi has broken his silence on rape charges against him, firmly denying the allegations and calling them a false accusation.

The 26-year-old Morocco international, recently nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, told French TV channel Canal+ that he remains confident despite the seriousness of the case. The charges stem from an incident at his home in February 2023.

“I’m calm,” Hakimi said. “Being falsely accused is horrible and unfair. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.”

If found guilty, Hakimi could face up to 15 years in prison, with prosecutors pushing for a trial at the Hauts-de-Seine criminal court.

Hakimi has always insisted that the encounter was consensual and has accused the woman of trying to blackmail him. In the interview, he showed no sign of backing down, saying, “I don’t blame myself. People who know me understand who I am. I’m focusing on my family and football. I know the truth will come out.”

Fresh evidence may strengthen his defense. According to French sports newspaper L’Équipe, messages found on the woman’s phone suggest possible planning before the meeting. During police questioning, she admitted that she never clearly refused Hakimi’s advances, telling a psychologist, “We kissed. I wanted it to end, but I didn’t really make it clear.”

Hakimi’s lawyers have described the prosecution’s case as “incomprehensible and senseless,” highlighting contradictions in her statements found in psychological reports.

While the legal battle continues, Hakimi has had one of the best seasons of his career. He helped PSG win a historic treble, including their first-ever Champions League title. Playing 63 matches, he scored 13 goals and made 15 assists, earning his first Ballon d’Or nomination alongside seven of his teammates.

For Hakimi, the fight is now on both the pitch and in court.
