Barcelona is close to signing Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, who is expected to leave Arsenal as a free agent at the end of June.
The 32-year-old has reportedly turned down a contract extension from Arsenal and is looking to return to Spain, where he previously played for Atlético Madrid.
Partey wants to continue playing in top-level European football, and that has made Barcelona an attractive option. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, discussions between Barcelona and Partey’s representatives have made good progress.
Barcelona, who have already signed goalkeeper Joan Garcia and are working on deals for Nico Williams and Roony Bardghji, are now focusing on strengthening their midfield. Partey’s experience, strength, and tactical skills make him a valuable addition to their squad.
Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, strongly supports the move. He believes Partey’s Champions League experience and ability to control games will help the team. Since Partey will be available on a free transfer, the deal fits well with Barcelona’s current plan to manage their finances wisely.
Although other clubs in Europe and the Middle East have shown interest, Barcelona are reportedly leading the race. A formal offer is expected soon, and the club hopes to complete the transfer before pre-season begins.
