Bawumia meets veterans

On Monday February 28, Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawummia joined the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) and other guests to observe the 74th anniversary of the 28th February 1948 Christianborg Castle crossroad shooting incident.

Dr. Bawumia observed a rather solemn wreath-laying and flag-raising ritual at the Cenotaph, Nationalism Park, Osu in remembrance of the shooting incident which led to the 1948 Riots that provoked an enhanced call for independence from colonial rule.

On that date 74 years ago, three Ghanaian ex-servicemen – Sergeant Adjetey, Cpl Attipoe and Private Odartey Lamptey- who were on a peaceful and non violent march were shot to death at the Christianborg Castle crossroad on the orders of a British soldier.

On Monday, there were five wreaths laid in honour of the departed soldiers during the ceremony, with Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia laying the first one on behalf of Government and Ghanaians.
