Be Diligent, Accountable To Your People – Nana Addo Tells Assembly Members

The President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has tasked Assembly members of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) to be diligent, accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.

According to him, the electorates require of the members the traits of selflessness, devotion to duty, a very accountable stewardship and above all the ability to deliver efficient services to improve on quality of life and promote prosperity.

In the view of the President, good governance entails active participation of the citizens in the Assembly to ensure the delivery of quality services, improved infrastructure and good leadership.

Nana Addo made the disclosure in a message read on his behalf by Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the Minster for Employment and Labour Relations at the inauguration of 15 Assembly members for ONMA in Accra today.

He reminded the members who have a -four-year mandate of their role in ensuring that the government delivers on its promises to Ghanaians.

The inauguration follows the successful conduct of the District Level Elections on December 17 last year.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Boye Laryea stated that Ghana’s decentralization agenda can never be realized without the inputs of the Assembly members who form part of the political hierarchy of the local authority in the country.

He said the office of the elected Assembly Members together with their Unit Committees is crucially significant to the development of the local space within which they are located.

Mr. Laryea added: “it is for this reason that elected honourable Members and Unit Committee Members cannot afford to disappoint the electorates who have toiled hard to place them at the Assembly in order to serve their diverse interests.”

The ONMA MCE tasked the members to invoke innovative ideas and diverse experiences to help improve upon polices they would formulate to regulate the activities of the Municipality.

Fuseni Issah, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North was optimistic the members would further entrench the successes so far chalked by the Assembly since its inception less than two years ago.

He disclosed that the Assembly is still putting in place in his words the full complements of the Assembly including health and education directorates, expected to make the decision making process swift.

The Chief of Achimota, Nii Ayibontey Adams advised the members to be humble and work closely with the Assembly to develop the Municipality.

The Chief of Abeka and Chairman for the occasion, Nii Boi IV, for his part also advised the members to pray for the President, Vice President and the MCE.
