BECE Candidates, Angry Youth Clash …At Exams Hall

THE TIMELY intervention of armed policemen prevented what looked like a possible bloodbath at a Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) center at Asuofia Asaaman on Friday.

This unpleasant development occurred after some irate youth of Asuofia Asaaman clashed violently with some male BECE candidates, after the armed youth .besieged the examination center when the candidates were writing their final paper.

Armed with sticks and other weapons, the youth threatened to forcibly enter the examination hall and manhandle some candidates they had had issues with the previous day.

The two policemen on duty at the centre could not contain the mob and quickly had to call for reinforcement, which arrived on time.

The policemen had to work above themselves before they could eventually send the mob away for the examination to continue.

An eye witness recalled that some BECE candidates fought with some youth in the town the previous day, prompting Friday’s attack.

According to the source, the angry youth therefore decided to retaliate on Friday, which was the final day of the examination, but were prevented by the heavy security presence there.
