Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, have climbed two places up in the latest FIFA World Ranking after impressive performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The four-time African champions, previously ranked 75th, now sit in 73rd position globally after securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup under head coach Otto Addo.
The new ranking highlights Ghana’s steady return to form on the international stage, powered by consistent results and growing team confidence.
During the October 2025 international window, the Black Stars earned two important wins, beating the Central African Republic and Comoros in their qualifying matches. Their narrow 1–0 victory over Comoros in the final group game confirmed their dominance in Group I and sealed their spot in next year’s World Cup.
However, Ghana’s standing on the African continent remains the same. The Black Stars are still ranked 14th in Africa, behind leading teams such as Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Nigeria.
Head coach Otto Addo and his players will now turn their attention to preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Their goal is to build a strong, competitive team capable of going beyond Ghana’s best-ever quarter-final finish at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
The team’s rise in the FIFA rankings gives both players and supporters a major confidence boost as Ghana prepares to reclaim its place among football’s top nations.
As part of their World Cup preparations, the Black Stars will play a pre-tournament friendly against South Korea during a planned Asian tour in November. The match will take place on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in Seoul.
Otto Addo and his men will have another opportunity to improve their world ranking depending on how they perform in the upcoming friendly and other matches ahead of the World Cup.
