A 19 YEAR old boy, who out of desperation to become fabulously rich overnight resorted to illegal mining operations, has lost his life in a deep mining pit.
Identified as Kojo Minlib, the deceased teenager, reportedly went on a mining expedition with his colleague illegal miner around 4am at Mpatuam when they both got killed.
The other deceased person has also been identified by the Nkawie District Police, who are investigating the depressing case as Kwaku Gyenin, who is believed to be 45 years old.
According to the police, the two illegal miners secretly entered an abandoned mining pit, which is said to be very deep. Without any caution, the pit suddenly collapsed and killed them.
The Nkawie District Police, confirming the two deaths in a statement, disclosed that the pit collapsed around 4am on Sunday, November 2025 and it was immediately reported to the police.
The police further disclosed that one Noah Nyunfoon of Mpatuam came to the station and reported the sad case but when the police reached the scene, the bodies had been pulled out.
“Noah Nyunfoon of Mpatuam came to the station and reported that, on same day at about 0400 hours, Kwaku Gyenin, aged 45 years and Kojo Minlib, aged 19 years, were doing illegal mining at Mpatuom.
“And in the process, the pit collapsed and they were trapped. On receipt of complaint, police proceeded to the scene but the bodies were already removed from the mud”, the police report seen by the paper, noted.
Meanwhile, the two lifeless bodies have been deposited at the Frimpong Boateng Medical Center mortuary, Toase, for preservation and autopsy as police investigations continue.
