The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency in the Eastern Region, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to re-elect former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the Party’s flag-bearer for the December 2028 elections.
Annoh-Dompreh made the call when addressing NPP faithful in his constituency on Monday December 1, during a visit by the Bawumia Campaign Team.
The open show of support for Dr. Bawumia’s 2028 flag-bearer bid by the Minority Chief Whip adds to the rising list of NPP notables who have publicly endorsed the former veep.
The ever rising list includes former MPs, constituency executives, polling station coordinators, and even coordinators from the camps of other aspirants who have openly crossed carpet to join Team Bawumia.
Defections
For instance, in the Asunafo South Constituency, Deputy Constituency Secretary Eric Agyemang, previously a key organizer for the Kennedy Agyapong campaign, publicly defected to Team Bawumia, withdrawing past criticisms and acknowledging that earlier claims against the former Vice President were “lies and falsehood.”
Ofosu Asamoah, the former MP for Kade, who served as Campaign Manager for Kwabena Agyapong, also announced his switch, saying a reassessment of the party’s internal dynamics convinced him to support Dr. Bawumia’s bid.
Former MP for New Juaben South, Michale Okyere Baafi and former Akwatia MP, Mercy Adu-Gyamfi (Ama Sey) have also openly thrown their support for Dr. Bawumia.
Argument
Across the country, grassroots members and party leaders who have openly pledged support for Dr. Bawumia have argued that he is the NPP’s strongest candidate for the 2028 general elections, because he has marketable visions and ideas and has been widely marketed to Ghanaians since 2008.
They argue further there is no need to introduce a new face and moreover his digitalization agenda, economic proposals, and forward-thinking outlook resonate broadly across party ranks.
Annoh-Dompreh
The Minority Chief Whip, on Monday December 1, said come the January 31 NPP presidential primary, the Electoral College should be minded that the only path back to power in 2028 begins with one decision: choosing Dr. Bawumia as flagbearer.
He argued that the NPP must think strategically at this moment, selecting a leader whose competence, loyalty, forward-thinking ideas and vision to restore the party after the 2024 loss.
“We need to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. If former President John Mahama could lose power and later return as President in 2025, then Dr. Bawumia, who has served faithfully and worked hard, can also return as President in 2029. But it begins with us, we must give him the mandate,” Annoh-Dompreh said strongly
Annoh-Dompreh praised Dr. Bawumia for leading major digitalisation reforms that changed how public services operate in Ghana, especially during difficult economic periods. He also said Dr. Bawumia has been a key inspiration to the youth and continues to energise the party’s base.
Dr. Bawumia received a warm and enthusiastic welcome when he arrived in Nsawam. Delegates, led by Annoh-Dompreh, lined the streets and cheered him on. What was supposed to be a simple meeting with delegates turned into a lively mini-rally, showing the strong support he enjoys in the constituency.
Annoh-Dompreh reminded the gathering that Dr. Bawumia has supported the Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency consistently over the years, which has earned him goodwill and trust.
“He has helped our constituency in many ways, and he has supported me personally. He has done no wrong to Nsawam-Adoagyiri. He deserves our unflinching support and our votes,” he added.
He stated that Dr. Bawumia’s calm leadership style, humility, and ability to motivate young people make him the best candidate to revive the party.
Dr. Bawumia thanked Annoh-Dompreh for the strong endorsement and described him as a “good man” and an “exceptional leader.”
He urged delegates to vote massively for him on January 31, saying, “But more importantly, I am ready to serve this party once again. I am asking you, the delegates, to vote massively for me on January 31.
I want to lead the NPP into the 2028 General Elections and work with dedicated people like Annoh-Dompreh to deliver real solutions.”
He assured the delegates that his proven record in digital transformation, financial reforms, and innovation shows he is ready to tackle Ghana’s challenges.
