Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi is the Chairman of the new Governing Board for the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC).
The official inauguration of the board, represents a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to build a dynamic defence manufacturing sector and accelerate national industrialisation.
The inauguration took place on Monday, July 7, 2025, following the 44th Guard Changing Ceremony at the Jubilee House and a strategic meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and key officials on intensifying the fight against illegal mining.
Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who administered the oath, described it as a “milestone moment” for both national security and economic transformation.
“After the 44th Guard Changing Ceremony at the presidency and an impactful meeting with his Excellency the president on the fight against illegal mining yesterday, I had the honor of inaugurating the new Governing Board of the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC)!
“This milestone moment for DIHOC marks a new chapter in our nation’s defence and economic development. I’m excited to work with the Board to build a strong institution that will drive Ghana’s industrialization agenda and secure our nation’s future” Dr Omane Boamah said in a Facebook post.
He added, “Our vision for DIHOC is clear: to make Ghana a hub for defense manufacturing, innovation, and strategic partnerships. We’ll achieve this through the establishment of a Defence Industrial Complex (DIC), creating decent and well-paying jobs and boosting our economy. As we pursue this noble vision, we’re also transforming Ghana into a 24-hour economy, where businesses thrive around the clock. This will further boost productivity and create new and additional job opportunities.”
In response, the board chairman indicated that, “I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust and confidence reposed in me to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of DIHOC. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, C-i-C of the Ghana Armed Forces for entrusting me with this critical responsibility. I am committed to working tirelessly with my colleague board members to take DIHOC to new higher heights. As we embark on this journey together, I pledge to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability.”
“As my Minister, Dr Omane Boamah pointed out during our swearing-in, “embark on projects that will be sustained beyond your tenure of office”, – we will do just that and even more. I am exceedingly grateful to him for his recommendation for this appointment. Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC) Commander-in-Chief (C-i-C)” he concluded.
Dr. Boamah outlined a bold vision for DIHOC to position Ghana as a hub for defence manufacturing, technological innovation, and strategic global partnerships.
Central to this ambition is the establishment of a Defence Industrial Complex (DIC), expected to create thousands of decent, well-paying jobs while enhancing the country’s self-reliance and industrial capacity.
