CAF Boss Heads to Senegal After AFCON Title Loss

CAF President Patrice Motsepe will visit Senegal on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, for a working trip, his office has confirmed.

During the visit, Motsepe will meet Senegal’s Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as Abdoulaye Fall from the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football. The meetings are expected to focus on key football matters in the country.

Although CAF has not officially stated the purpose of the visit, many believe it is linked to the recent decision by the Confédération Africaine de Football Appeals Jury concerning the AFCON 2025 final.

On March 17, CAF awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory after reviewing the final match between Senegal and Morocco. Senegal had earlier won the game 1-0 to lift the trophy. However, CAF’s Appeals Jury overturned that result after accepting an appeal from the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.

CAF explained that the decision was based on procedural issues. The body said Morocco’s right to be heard was not respected during the earlier process handled by its Disciplinary Jury.

Following this ruling, Senegal has taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, where the case is now under review.
