Calm Returns to Ada East Assembly after 8 Months Boycott

The Ada-East District Assembly has organized its first General Assembly meeting, eight months after the contentious confirmation of Hon. Sarah Dugbakie Pobee as District Chief Executive.

The meeting, which was attended by the DCE and the Presiding Member, Hon. Simon Korbla Arthur, discussed the implementation of various projects and developmental issues, all of which were brought to a halt since November, 2017 after some aggrieved Assembly members boycotted sittings.

In his inaugural address, the Presiding Member, Simon Arthur, appealed to his colleagues not to see the meeting as a ground to seek revenge, but rather use the opportunity to unite and work hard to make-up for the loss in the last eight months.

On her part, the DCE, Hon. Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, thanked the members for softening their stance and returning to the assembly. She disclosed that the assembly had over the period mobilized revenue to the tune of GHC505,203.03, representing 62.4% of targeted revenue, with an actual expenditure of GHC461, 852.61, representing 57.0%.

She appealed to members to help her in her quest to develop the District.

It would be recalled that violence erupted on 3rd November, 2017 during the confirmation of the then nominee, Sarah Pobee, which saw some seventeen assembly members attacked by people believed to be members of the notorious Invincible Forces.

As a result, Members of the assembly, refused to summon assembly meetings to discuss the implementation of developmental projects in the Ada-East District. But after several consultations and approaches from some government officials, members finally agreed to smoke a peace pipe with the assembly. The calm led to the summoning of its first meeting on Thursday, 26th July, 2018.
