Carragher: Kudus’ Season Disappointing

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has not performed as well this season as he did in his first year at West Ham United.

Carragher shared his thoughts on Sky Sports, describing Kudus’ current campaign as underwhelming. He said the 24-year-old has failed to repeat the strong form that made his debut season in English football impressive.

“Last season, he looked fantastic; he just hasn’t looked the same player this season,” Carragher said.

Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax and quickly made an impact, scoring and assisting a combined 14 goals in the 2023/2024 season. His performance helped the Hammers finish well in both the Premier League and the Europa League.

This season, however, Kudus has only managed four goals and three assists in 30 league appearances. Carragher believes this dip in performance is one reason why West Ham are struggling in the 2024/2025 season.

“One of the reasons why West Ham are where they are this season is because he hasn’t shown the form that he showed last season,” he said.

Despite the drop, Carragher believes Kudus still has great potential.

“Kudus might think this is an off-season for him, and last season was the real Kudus. That’s a good sign,” he added.

Carragher also hinted that Kudus could be sold soon as West Ham might need funds. Reports suggest Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are interested in the Ghanaian star.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a change there in some way, because West Ham need the money,” he said.

Kudus, a former Right to Dream Academy player, remains one of Ghana’s top football talents abroad.
