Cedar Mountain Chapel Organises Free Health Screening

The Cedar Mountain Chapel Assemblies of God Church, East Legon Branch, at the weekend organised a free health screening and medication exercise for squatters around East Legon, Okponglo and surrounding communities.

The medical outreach, which was part of the Church’s Eighth Anniversary Celebration, provided general health screening on glucose levels and health disorders including malaria, gastro enteritis, skin infections, and malnutrition for the people.

An eye screening was also organised for the squatters who were provided with free spectacles to help correct their eye defects.

Reverend Dr Stephen Yenusom Wengam, the Lead Pastor of the Church, said the exercise involved the screening of 2000 squatters.

He said the Church, apart from preaching the gospel, often organised programmes to support the needy, through which it could win more souls for Christ.

Rev. Dr Wengam said the Church had declared 2018 a ‘Year of Kindness,’ hence the health screening and other community support activities.

Dr Nana Ama Mireku-Gyimah, a Pharmacist with the Church, told the Ghana News Agency that free medications, including antacids for stomach pain, antibiotics for infections, analgesics for pain, multivitamins and blood tonics for anaemia, and antimalarial drugs were given to the participants.

She said the health disorder that topped the list was respiratory tract infection suspected to be caused by the climate and gastro conditions, skin infections and high blood pressure.

Dr Mireku-Gyimah urged the public to be cautious with medication intake explaining that every drug was a potential poison and the manner in which one takes it would determine its efficacy.

“The best way to take care of one’s self is to eat well, exercise well, rest well and do the will of God,” she said.

Mr Abraham Aguriba, a Secretary of the Church’s Board, said the exercise formed part of the Five-year Strategic Plan of the Church, focused on recommissioning its mandate, which required members to move out and preach the gospel.
