Chelsea’s Jackson Gets Two-Match Ban After Red Card

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has been suspended for two matches after receiving a red card in Friday’s 3-1 Club World Cup loss to Flamengo.

According to BBC Sport, Jackson was sent off just four minutes after coming on as a substitute for a dangerous studs-up tackle on Flamengo defender Lucas Ayrton.

Initially, the Senegalese forward was handed a one-match ban, ruling him out of tonight’s final group stage match against ES Tunis. However, FIFA’s disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and decided the challenge was serious foul play. As a result, Jackson will now also miss Chelsea’s next match in the last 16 if the team qualifies.

The decision by the disciplinary committee is final and cannot be appealed.

Chelsea, managed by Enzo Maresca, must avoid a loss to ES Tunis in Philadelphia to progress to the knockout stage of the tournament.

This is Jackson’s second red card in just four games. He is now suspended in both the Premier League and the Club World Cup. In total, Jackson has received eight yellow cards and two red cards this season.

After the match, Jackson apologised on social media and also personally said sorry to his teammates in the dressing room. Defender Marc Cucurella and coach Maresca both confirmed his apology after the game.
