Coronavirus: GES yet to sensitize teachers, schools – GNAT

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) says schools and teachers have not been prepared on how to deal with Coronavirus in case of an outbreak in the country.

Speaking on Morning Starr, President of GNAT Philipa Larson said no forum has been organized to provide information and protocols for handling children in the face of the disease outbreak.

She said putting teachers in readiness for an outbreak is long overdue and must be addressed urgently.

When asked if GNAT will proactively demand meetings to have this sensitization done, Madam Larson said they will move swiftly for action to be taken.

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo is scheduled to tour facilities such as the Kotoka International Airport, the Ridge Hospital and the Tema General Hospital later today, Wednesday March 4, 2020.

He’s billed to inspect preparation so far in these facilities in the event of the deadly Covid-19 in Ghana.

The President will interface with health officials and personnel assigned to fight the outbreak and spread of the virus in the country.

This follows a report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that identified gaps to plan for preparedness, response and control activities in the West African country.

Ghana is classified among Priority 1 countries in WHO Africa region for at being at risk based on flights and passenger volumes, according to the WHO report.
