CU, NOM Hold Maiden EDUCAMP High School Praise

The Trinity Hall of the Central University was filled with about 700 young people from 11 Senior High Secondary Schools in Accra, Tema, Ada and Akosombo for the maiden EduCamp and High School Praise. The educational and musical event, which was a collaborative effort between the University and the Nii Okai Ministries (NOM), left patrons very excited and looking forward for the next edition in 2020.

EduCamp and High School Praise is an outreach event designed to give Senior High students a unique opportunity to interact with the University and have a stinct of life on University campus while meeting faculty members who will provide educational and career counselling to them. The event also affords the students the platform to exhibit their musical skills as each school’s choir gets the chance to perform during the event.

Nii Okai Ministries (NOM), a music outreach ministry in Tema who partnered with the University spearheaded the High School Praise portion which featured various school choirs and band performing. The Harbor City Mass Choir also ministered in songs during the event.

The Acting Dean of the Central Business School, Dr. Adelaide Kastner made an engaging presentation on the topic, ‘Why Study At Central University’, and assured the participants that a decision to study at CU would be one they would not regret. She mentioned some successes chalked in the past, including the Socrates Prize for the Best University in 2014 and the Presidential Prize for the Best University in 2015.

Two lecturers from the Schools of Architecture and Design, and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Miss Ninnette Quaofio and Dr. Joseph Ocran, respectively, presented programmes on entry requirements and job prospects within their schools to the students. They also answered questions from participants. The School of Architecture and Design also mounted an exhibition of projects by students. Participants also had a brief tour of the Miotso campus.

Brilliant musical talents were displayed during the event. The participating schools for the maiden programme were Akosombo International School, Ghana Christian International School, Life International School, Tema Senior High School, Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School, Tema Methodist Day Senior High School, West African Senior High School, Accra Wesley Girls Senior High School, Sege Technical Senior High, Ada Senior High School and Labone Senior High School.
