At least one person has been injured in a gunfire exchange between the Police and some suspected armed robbers in the Eastern region.
The injured suspect and a driver, believed to be an accomplice, are currently in custody, Starr News has reported.
The suspect, William Owusu, 17, sustained gunshot wound during the exchanges. The Police also managed to arrest the driver, Emmanuel Yeboah who was in charge of the Ford Fuso with registration number GT 3371 which was being used by the suspects at Omenako on the Suhum stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway Tuesday dawn.
The other suspects, however, managed to escape.
Confirming the incident to Starr News, the Public Relation officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command ASP Ebenezer Tetteh explained that at about 2:30am Tuesday, Police received information from the National Police headquarters indicating that a group of armed men were robbing a stationary Man-diesel truck with registration number GR 221-W loaded with assorted goods heading towards Kumasi.
He said the Patrol team at Suhum swiftly moved to the scene at Omenako and met the robbers in the act, but the robbers first opened fire after noticing Police presence.
ASP Tetteh said the exchanges led to the injury of the suspect and driver Emmanuel Yeboah.
The injured suspect is receiving treatment at the Suhum government Hospital under Police guard.
