EC resumes Voter ID card replacement

The Electoral Commission (EC) has resumed the issuance of Voter ID cards nationwide Ghanaians who have misplaced theirs

A statement signed by Mrs Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC said any person who wishes to replace a lost, defaced or damaged Voter’s ID Card was requested to pay a fee of Five Ghana Cedis (GH¢5.00) at any of the Ghana Commercial Bank branches across the country.

“Applicants are requested to submit receipt of payment to the Office of the Commission where the applicant is registered, for the issuance of a new ID Card,” it said.

August 2018 suspended the Voter ID card replacement exercise to retool the voter management systems at the district level.

“This is to enable the Commission to mobilize and retool its district Voter Management Systems (VMS), as part of its preparatory activities towards its scheduled 2018 online limited voters registration exercise”, the EC stated.

The electoral body, however indicated that a new date for the resumption of the replacement would be announced later.

Replacement of lost ID cards at the EC

The Electoral Commission puts arrangements in place for registered voters who have misplaced their ID cards.

The replacement of lost voter ID cards is done at all district offices nationwide at a fee.

Any person who loses his voter I.D. card will within 7 days of becoming aware of the loss report the loss in person to the District Officer of the Commission or to the nearest police station.

The police officer in charge will in turn, report the loss to the District Officer of the Commission within 7 days of the receipt of the report.
