Veteran Ghanaian actor Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, popularly known as Koo Fori, has been released from police custody after his arrest on Friday, 10 May 2025, in connection with an alleged $50,000 fraud.
The actor, widely known for his role in the Efiewura series, was reportedly accused of defrauding a US-based Ghanaian businessman.
According to reports, Koo Fori received the money under the guise of a business investment, possibly involving the purchase of land, but failed to deliver and allegedly went into hiding.
The aggrieved businessman filed a formal complaint after several failed attempts to retrieve the money.
Following this, the Dansoman District Court issued a bench warrant for Koo Fori’s arrest after he ignored a summons to appear in court on 17 April 2025. His arrest was captured in a viral video shared by Atinka TV, which showed him in handcuffs being taken to the Accra Central Police Command.
Despite the controversy, Koo Fori appeared in good spirits at a recent pre-launch event for Peekak Sardine, held at the premises of Bryt TV, where he serves as General Manager. In a TikTok video shared by social media personality Nana Tornado, the actor was seen smiling and chatting freely, although he avoided giving full details about the case.
“At the right time, we shall address the issue properly,” he said.
Although he was scheduled to appear in court on Friday, 9 May, the hearing has been postponed to Monday, 12 May 2025.
