The assurance given by the Jean Mensa led Electoral Commission to announce the winner of the 2020 general elections with regards to the Presidential slot has failed.
The Commission earlier communicated that it will announce the results for the 2020 elections by 5pm today.
But in a new twist, the Commission said it has extended the time for the announcement of the winner.
According to the EC, the new development is to ensure that results which will be announced are accurate and represent the views of the people of Ghana.
“The Electoral Commission informs the General Public that to ensure the collation of results at the Constituency and Regional Collation Centres across the country is accurate, the EC will extend its intended timeline for declaring the 2020 Presidential election results. The new timeline will be communicated shortly,” the statement said.
The Commission had earlier urged the public to be patient amid building anticipation for the Presidential Election results.
“The Commission’s staff and field officials are working round the clock to ensure that the collated results are accurate and a true reflection of the will of the people of Ghana who turned out in their numbers to vote on 7th December, 2020,” it said in a statement.
