Elections In Ghana has Become Very Expensive – Ade Coker

Re-elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Coker has revealed that he spent a fortune on last week’s election.

Ade Coker romped home with 319 votes out of the 1009 total valid votes cast to beat his closet contender Daniel Amartey who pulled 293 of the votes cast.

Speaking on Joy News on Monday, he said prosecuting a successful political campaign in Ghana has become an expensive venture, adding that, “one must be very resourceful to convince delegates to vote for him”.

When cornered by the host of the programme to reveal the exact amount of money he spent on his campaign, he declined except to say, “These are strategic secrets, what went in or out should be trade secrets and organisations don’t discuss their trade secrets in the public.”

According to him, these financial demands would prevent a section of the citizenry from vying for leadership position.

It was in this direction that he urged the NDC to look at the modalities governing their election to reduce the expenditure of aspirants.

His comments come two days after the NDC went to polls to elect regional executives.

Scores of incumbent executives were kicked out. Also the biggest shock came from the ‘World Bank’ of the party, the Volta Region.
