Embarrassing Demo Against US Military Deal Failed – Dokua

A deputy Information Minister, Nana Ama Dokua has described Wednesday’s demonstration demanding the cancellation of the US military cooperation with the Ghana’s government as a failure.

According to her, the demonstration is the most scantily and poorly patronised demonstration in Ghana’s history.

“The Ghanaian people are beginning to understand the issues and that is why the demonstration failed the way it failed. The most embarrassing and scantily demonstration ever organised in Ghana.

“The total population of the demonstrators I am sure are even less than all the constituency executives of the NDC together with national and regional executives…those who were at the demonstration say it was massive but even three is a crowd,” the Information Minister told Starr Today Wednesday.

Her comments come after, a group, the Ghana First Patriotic Front on Wednesday joined hundreds of NDC members to march against the US military pact ratified by Parliament on Friday.

The Ghana – US defence cooperation agreement gives American soldiers unimpeded access to certain key installations and in return the West African country will earn $20 million by way of training of its soldiers and equipment.

Ahead of Wednesday’s demonstration, a leading member of the NDC Koku Anyidoho was arrested by the police over treasonable comments.

Mr. Anyidoho in a radio interview served notice that President Akufo-Addo administration is likely to be overthrown similar to a coup d’état witnessed in 1972 against his father.

He has been charged with high treason and has spent two nights in BNI cells amid a scramble by his lawyers to secure him bail.
