THE FAMOUS phrase ‘curiosity killed the cat’ has manifested at Nkawie New Site in the Ashanti Region where a farmer, out of curiosity, detonated a suspected grenade, which exploded and caused massive injuries to him and his son.
Thomas Beako, the farmer, who is believed to be 40 years old, was said to be waking to his farm with his twelve yeafs old son when he (Thomas) saw a metal object lying on the ground.
The farmer therefore paused and picked the metal object to check and see what it was. As he was observing it the object suddenly exploded and caused injuries, including losing all his left fingers. His son, who was standing some few meters away from him, also got injured.
The sad incident, according to the Nkawie District Police in the Ashanti Region, happened on November 30, 2025 around 10 am. Some Good Samaritans later on rushed the farmer and his son to the hospital for medical attention.
The police report, seen by The New Publisher, confirming the report said “Police received an information from Nkawie/Toase Government hospital that, one Thomas Beako, aged 40 years and his son, aged 12 years, were brought to the said facility with unusual injuries on their bodies”.
It added that “Police proceeded to the Nkawie/Toase Government hospital Emergency ward and saw victims Thomas Beako and his son receiving treatment.
“The victim told police that he picked an object, suspected to be Grenade, on his way to his farm at Nkawie New Site and upon opening it by pulling a pin that was attached to it, the object exploded and cut off all his left fingers”.
The Nkawie District Police disclosed further that they visited the scene and saw blood stains around, adding that only one of the 5 cut off fingers of the farmer was seen lying in the ground, adding that “no particles of the alleged object was seen”.
