Female Referee Beaten by Supporters at Techiman Women’s Premier League Game

Referee Lovia Boadiwaa Duodo was allegedly assaulted after the Women’s Premier League match between Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC and FC Savannah Ladies at Techiman Urban Park.

The incident happened on Sunday, January 18, 2026, shortly after the final whistle was blown. According to eyewitnesses, supporters invaded the pitch and targeted match officials. During the chaos, Duodo was attacked and sustained injuries while being escorted off the field.

Video footage circulating online shows angry fans chasing officials as security struggled to control the situation. The disorder also resulted in one FC Savannah Ladies player getting injured. The scenes caused fear among players, officials, and spectators present at the venue.

The alleged assault on Duodo has been widely condemned by football fans, administrators, and players across the country. Many have expressed concern about the safety of match officials, especially female referees, during high-pressure league games.

The incident has once again raised serious questions about security arrangements and crowd control at Women’s Premier League venues. Critics say stronger measures are needed to protect referees and players before, during, and after matches.

The match itself was highly charged. FC Savannah Ladies were leading 2-1 in stoppage time before Ampem Darkoa Ladies equalised in the 92nd minute. Ampem Darkoa Ladies then scored the winning goal in the fifth minute of added time, a development that appeared to anger some supporters.

As at the time of reporting, the Ghana Football Association had not issued an official statement on the incident. Investigations are expected, and further action may be taken once the matter is fully reviewed.
