Fetish Priests Display Powers At Manhyia

DREADED FETISH priests, who are endowed with amazing spiritual powers, are expected to storm the Manhyia Palace to display their powers come Friday, December 1.

The spiritual displays will officially kick-start the two-week grand funeral of the late Asantehemaa, Nana AfiaKobiSerwaaAmpem II.

Among the high points of the funeral is when the wife of Otumfuo, Lady Julia, will present a special gold necklace to console the Asantehene.

According to a detailed funeral programme released to the media by the Manhyia Palace,the funeral will see top political leaders from across the globe and powerful traditional rulers all over the world, visiting Kumasi to console Otumfuo.

The first day of the funeral, dubbed; ‘Performance by Traditional Priests and Priestesses’, will take place at Bogyawe in the Manhyia Palace; with the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool, OtumfuoOsei Tutu II, sitting in state to monitor proceedings.

Other prominent chiefs, especially the Nsumankwahene, BaffuorAsabreKogyawoasu, the head of the fetish priesthood in Asanteman, would also be there.

Programme

The programmesaid there would be a dusk-to-dawn wake-keeping at the Asantehemaa’s palace on Saturday, December 2.

Sunday December 3, will be the ‘KuntukuniDae, where all attendees including Asantehene, would wear dark clothes.

Starting from dawn of December 4, there will be traditional wailing of royals from Manhyia to Adum and back to Manhyia Palace.On that same day, there will be the firing of musketry at the palace and Otumfuo would later in the day sit in state and distribute palm wine to well-wishers.

On Tuesday, December 5, the paramount chiefs in the Asante Kingdom will fire musketry and once again Otumfuo will sit in state to receive sympathizers.

Lady Julia, Otumfuo’s wife, will at a mammoth gathering console the Asantehene with a special gold necklace on Wednesday, December 6.

The wives of the princes of the Golden Stool will present customary burial articles (Adesoada and Futuo) on Thursday, December 7.Otumfuo will then distribute sheep, foodstuffs and firewood to mourners, while a stool will be consecrated in memory of the late queen.

The Asantehene will finally sit in state to welcome the consecrated stool of Nana AfiaKobiSerwaaAmpem II from Werempe on Saturday, December 9.On that same day, there will be a special traditional ritual meant to cleanse all the royals of the Golden Stool.

On Sunday, December 10, there will be an inter-denominational thanksgiving service and Otumfuo will bid farewell to the mourners the following day.

The two-week long funeral will be climaxed with Muslim thanksgiving service at the Kumasi Central Mosque and the dress code for that event is black and white.
